My alternative to bracing for the worst

Updated: Oct 25, 2022

As women who struggle with perfectionism, when we begin to feel the pressures of life, our tendency can often be to hold tighter to any semblance of control. We frantically scan our environment for what might possibly go wrong and begin doing everything we can think of to mitigate against it.

Because, what if…?

It feels like if we loosen our grip on the steering wheel, there's a very real possibility that the life we've worked so hard to build may fall apart. Feel familiar?

Holding our lives together was never in God's game plan for our life. Scripture instructs us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 to “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.” God wants us to move through everything we're experiencing with joy and gratefulness because He is taking care of things on our behalf.

And it gets better! Romans 8:28 says that God works for the good of all those who love Him.

He's not just working; He's working for your good.

So, here's my encouragement today: Instead of worrying that your life will fall apart, try out the idea that everything is always coming together.

It's true because God told us so.

The challenging culture at work.

The cost overruns on that never-ending project.

The painful end to a friendship.

What changes for you if you believe everything is coming together just as it should?

I encourage you to sit down and journal about something in your life that feels like it's falling apart. Pour it all out before God, every bit of what you're feeling. Then consider the following questions:

How might this situation be coming together for my good?

What is the Lord teaching me in this?

What action do I want to take as a result of this perspective shift?

I spent almost my entire life believing everything was up to me. And while I was a high-achiever and a get-it-doner, it came at a great cost to my mental and physical health.

If you're in that place right now, I can help you. This is the work I do with women – helping them get free from perfectionism and fear so that they can live the life God created them for. Book a chat here, so you can tell me all the things and we can get you moving toward the life you long for.
